Dummerston School Handbook 2017-2018

The School Handbook is provided to help parents and guardians navigate the basic operations of the school day and provide information on annual programs and events that happen at the school. In addition, you will find local and district policies and procedures. These policies are written to protect your child's rights as well as the rights of others to learn and participate in a safe and respectful school environment.

Your child's safety is our utmost concern; therefore, we request that you contact the school by 9:00 a.m. if your son or daughter will not be attending school. If we fail to hear from you, we will attempt to contact you to verify your child's absence. Please feel free to leave a message at 802-254-2733, extension 2 before 9:00 a.m. If we cannot verify a student's absence, we will contact local authorities to investigate.

Building Hours

Our school day begins at 8:25 a.m. and ends at 2:45 p.m. Students arriving by bicycle, walking, or private car are asked to arrive at school between 8:05 and 8:20 a.m. Students arriving before 8:05 a.m. should report to the school playground where they will be supervised until Community Action Teams/Calm Activity Time (CAT) begins. Indoor supervision is provided when weather indicates the need. There is no supervision prior to 7:55 a.m; therefore, please do not drop your child off before that time.

Our school day ends at 2:45 p.m. It is important to review after school transportation plans with your children each day before school, so they know in advance whether they will be attending the ASPIRE Program, you will be picking them up from school, or if they'll ride the bus home. Please send a written note to your child's classroom teacher if there are changes in your child's after school transportation plans.

Unless students are participating in the ASPIRE Program, an after school tutorial, school sponsored club or sports team, they will need to go home (either by bus or parent pick-up) at 2:45 p.m.

Early Release Days:

On early release days students are dismissed at 11:50 a.m. after eating lunch. Buses follow their usual routes departing between 11:50 a.m. and 12:00 noon. Walkers and riders should be picked up no later than 12:00 (noon).
